Generation Exchange

Generation Exchange is an innovative program that brings youth and seniors together in a meaningful way. Eden Housing "Digital Connector" teens volunteer on a weekly basis to teach their senior neighbors basic computer skills, how to e-mail and navigate the Internet, and how to use Facebook and Ancestry.com.

The exchange creates a significant impact for both generations:

  • Youth learn how to engage with aging adults with sensitivity and compassion, fostering positive attitudes and increased self-esteem. Youth feel valued, respected and supported.
  • Seniors learn practical computer applications that connect them with family members, friends and their community—reducing depression and isolation.

They also take walks and socialize together. Many friendships are blossoming—improving the social health of participants and their communities.

Generation Exchange supports our goal to help nearly 2,000 Eden Housing seniors to age in place and live independently for as long as possible.

“I had zilch computer experience before Generation Exchange and it’s opening up a whole new world for me. It’s not only good for us old folks but helps build self-esteem among the youth.” - John, Eden senior resident and Generation Exchange participant
