Community Engagement

Eden Housing recognizes the positive impact that a community can have on residents’ health and well-being. Residents in Eden communities come from very diverse cultures, and therefore many of the activities are designed to increase cross-cultural understanding and to address multicultural issues.
To encourage community building, on-site staff work with residents to assist them in forming or strengthening resident organizations and advocacy groups; to address community issues; to build informal support networks and interest groups; and to get involved with neighborhood improvement efforts. Field trips to local fairs, sporting events, or shopping and theater are common in our senior communities.
Our residents are encouraged to volunteer onsite leading activities and helping with events to build feelings of empowerment in their own communities.  Residents take the lead in activities such as arts and crafts, exercise classes and coordinating food bank distributions, all of which increase their sense of belonging and community.  We also have volunteers from the outside community who come onsite to teach yoga, art, computer classes, or help as a tutor or financial coach.  We also schedule opportunities for corporate and community groups to host events and beautify spaces to further foster connection and community.  To learn more about Eden Housing’s volunteer program, please visit
In addition, Eden Housing organizes community events and cultural celebrations, picnics and potlucks, and health and safety fairs such as National Night Out (NNO). This unique, crime-free multi-housing program is designed to improve neighborhood safety and to strengthen community partnerships with local police and fire departments.
Community spaces are also available to the residents to use for their own events and activities. They will often schedule space for family gatherings, birthday celebrations and other special events.
