Eden Volunteer of the Month - April 2018

Kaavya Shanmugam at Carlow Court, Dublin

We are so proud of the volunteers who choose to give their time to our affordable communities and residents. If you're interested in volunteering with Eden, please go to Volunteer with Eden Housing.

Below is Eden Housing's Volunteer of the Month

Name: Kaavya Shanmugam

Property: Carlow Court in Dublin

Why did you chose to volunteer with Eden Housing? I have grandparents of my own who I love dearly and working with the seniors at Eden Housing reminds me of them.

What have you done as a volunteer?  Please describe your role and what you have worked on. I hold an arts and crafts class for an hour every week. Every week we work on different crafts. The seniors at Eden Housing especially love painting so I try to come up with crafts that incorporate working with paint.

What have you learned through your volunteer experience?  Have there been any surprises? While working on the crafts, I try to engage in conversations with the seniors. As I teach them different crafts, they teach me more about their cultures and traditions.

What do you like best about volunteering with Eden Housing? I love the people! The seniors, the staff and everyone there have been so sweet and welcoming. They really make you feel like a part of the family.

Are there any tips that you would share for someone else who is considering volunteering? I would tell them to go for it. It’s a wonderful experience and you learn a lot from it. So keep an open mind and have fun with it.

Tell us something we may not know about you. Any interesting facts you’d like to share about your life? I lived in India for five years and moved back to the United States about two years ago :)
