Volunteer with Eden Housing

COMMUNITY GARDENING

For groups: Sign up to help beautify a space!  Our gardens can always benefit from some maintenance work, such as weeding, and raking. We welcome groups who want to join together and make an impact with a larger project, such as building a raised bed, laying mulch, and large-scale garden renovations.

Duties:

During our garden build events groups of volunteers work alongside our clients, we assemble 4x8' raised bed gardens, fill them with soil and compost, and plant vegetable plants and seeds. Volunteer training is provided on the day of the garden build, so no prior experience is necessary.

Skills needed:

· Must have excellent interpersonal skills, a positive personality and friendly demeanor.

· Some gardening experience is helpful, including knowledge of weeds, planting, and use of garden tools.

· Light construction experience is helpful: previous experience building with hammer and nails is useful.

Benefit:

This is a great team building opportunity! Volunteers will have the opportunity to work closely with their team members and potentially Eden residents.  Volunteers will learn new skills and be empowered to beautify a space for a low-income community. Volunteers will also be able to see the direct, tangible impact of their efforts as project can be completed in one day.

Time commitment:

Volunteer group must be available to complete the project.  Garden maintenance can take two to three hours. Most garden builds take about three to four hours.  A volunteer group of 10-20 will build raised beds from lumber, install them, and prep the beds for planting. This is a one-time, volunteer opportunity for a group. Supervision and tools will be provided.
