Volunteer with Eden Housing

Are you a tech-savvy individual looking to share your skills with underserved youth and make a direct impact on their education? Volunteer with Eden’s Technology Access Program (ETAP) and teach a course or series of courses to the youth in our afterschool technology program. Our ETAP program encourages volunteers to teach as guest lecturers and share their professional skills, inspire youth and help us to promote digital literacy, youth leadership and community service.  As a guest lecturer, you can help provide or supplement our computer education training while working directly with youth participants and providing support as they learn computer skills to help them gain employment.

· Commit to teaching one course, or a series of courses.

· Provide supplementary instruction and assistance for youth participants on coding, careers in technology, how to build a webpage, and other relevant topics.

· Design and lead small group sessions or training workshops.

· Observe youth to determine qualifications, limitations, abilities, interests, and other characteristics.

· Mentor youth to further their education by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities.

· Report back to staff on participant’s progress.

· Maintain confidentiality of all client information.

· Act as a resource and guide, helping them learn how to find resources and information

· Work closely with Eden staff and report on any issues or get support when needed

Skills needed:

· Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, supportive personality and demeanor.

· Skilled with technology; coding, computer repair, or web design.

· Must be extremely reliable and able to follow through on commitments.

· Strong interpersonal communication skills with people from diverse cultures and life circumstances.

· Previous experience working with marginalized youth is appreciated.

Help make a substantial difference in the lives of our young residents and directly contribute to their success. This is a great opportunity to share your skills and knowledge with a great group of youth.

Time commitment:

Guest lecturers must commit to teaching at least once course, although we prefer a series of three courses, as a minimum.  ETAP classes are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4-6 pm in San Jose and Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6 pm in Fremont.
